Gabby Thomas ’15: Breaking Records

Gabby Thomas was an amazing runner during her time at Williston, and it’s no surprise she has continued to excel at Harvard. Recently, she set Harvard and Ivy League records in the 200, with one of the top five 200-meter times in the country thus far and the fastest 200 by a freshman. Alumni Athletes in the News for January

Thomas ‘15 set a track record; Bronner '08 was a hockey star of the week; Chipouras '15 was NESCAC rookie of the year

Gabby Thomas ‘15 set a new Harvard and Ivy League record in the 200 recently—one of the top five 200-meter times in the country thus far and the fastest 200 by a freshman. As Director of Athletics Mark Conroy succinctly put it,  “Amazing.”

On January 19, Danbury Titans forward Phil Bronner ’08 was selected as the Sons of Hockey Star of the Week by the Federal Hockey League. Mr. Bronner, who is in hishis third professional season, tallied three goals and six assists in four games to help the Danbury Titans to four wins over that weekend.

 In his first year at Trinity College, Max Chipouras ’15 was named New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Rookie of the Year.  As Trinity’s starting running back, Mr. Chipouras had 649 rushing yards on 138 carries for an average of 4.7 yards per carry.  He led the league in touchdowns with 12 and added 12 catches out of the backfield for 54 yards.  Read more about Mr. Chipouras.

 

Alumni Visit for College Panel, Basketball Game

This past Saturday, we held two alumni events on campus, which made for a fun day.

young-alumni-college-counseling-panel_24234270131_oThe day started off with a panel discussion, led by Director of College Counseling Tim Cheney and featuring nine young alumni. Collectively, they represented eight different colleges and universities: Yale, Wesleyan, Northeastern, Smith, Connecticut College, Hobart William Smith, Davidson and Boston College.

As students in either their first or second years at college, the alumni came back to speak with young-alumni-college-counseling-panel_23688569844_oour current juniors and seniors about their experiences, particularly with college selection process. The group— Henry Lombino, Brendan Hellweg, Cameron Hill, Elyssa Katz, Brittany Collins, Hannah King, Loren Po, Marie Innarelli, Jenna Phelan—spoke for almost two hours on a variety of college-related topics.

The panel told their audience of more than 30 students and 10 faculty to trust the college counselors, adding that they know what they are talking about. Among the other interesting points the panel made:

Marquis “Quis” Francois ’14 in Jersey Journal

A recent  article The Jersey Journal notes that Marquis “Quis” Francois ’14, “a defensive lineman for the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute football team, has helped carry the team off to an 8-2 start this season.”

“The Engineers’ No. 77 balances sports and his school work,” the piece continues, “making Dean’s List while he studies business and management. Francois, a sophomore, made six tackles against the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Oct. 3, a season high for him.

Originally from Jersey City, Francois went to high school in Massachusetts at Williston Northampton School before heading to the New York-based private technological research university. “
