Pat Bock Exhibits “Paper Thoughts” at Williston’s Grubbs Gallery

Pat Bock exhibits "Paper Thoughts" at the Grubbs Gallery of The Williston Northampton School in Easthampton, MAArtist Pat Bock will present “Paper Thoughts” at the Grubbs Gallery in the Reed Campus Center of The Williston Northampton School from January 5 through February 29.

In her recent mixed media compositions, Bock finds paper to be an accommodating medium as she puts it through its paces. Simple ideas such as seeds, slips, and scribbles are thoughtfully expressed through line, color, and texture.

Williston Students Spread Holiday Cheer

Williston students were able to purchase every gift on their adopted family's list.Thanks to more than $500 in donations, students at The Williston Northampton School were able to buy Christmas presents for three families in western Massachusetts. The funds were raised during a week of fundraising efforts on campus including bake sales and the sale of bracelets for “Dress-down Day.” Students in three advisor groups worked together in the effort, baking, organizing the events, shopping, and gathering with friends for a wrapping party.

Name that Teacher

attachmentThe library is holding a Faculty Photo Display and ID Contest, which is bound to challenge Williston Northampton’s students after the Winter Break. Teachers are being asked to chose a photo of themselves from their high school years and to write a brief piece about their teens.

The display will be on a large board in the library. The photos, unidentified, will be numbered and arranged randomly. The written pieces will be signed and posted unconnected to the pictures. Some photographs will be obvious and some will be a bit tougher to identify. The library staff will announce the winner, and then the teachers’ names will be posted, identifying each photo.

Students Are Sending Holiday Cheer to American Troops

In the midst of homework, tests, papers, and the usual rush of the holidays, it is easy to lose sight of the larger world and those who are far from home. But Madeleine “Maddy” Stern ’14 (Northampton, MA) and Bennett “Ben” Wheeler ’14 (Longmeadow, MA), both class officers, made time to remember American troops unable to be home for the holidays.

Maddy and Ben are organizing an effort to send over 400 holiday cards to soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq. Students at the school have undertaken an effort like this in the past, and Maddy and Ben decided it was time to revive the tradition. Maddy said, “We thought this was a great idea, especially at the holidays.”

Gymnast Jonathan Deaton ’12 Commits to Stanford University

Jonathan Deaton '12Senior Jon Deaton signed his letter of intent to join the men’s gymnastics team at Stanford University in the fall of 2012. A member of the Men’s Junior Olympic National team, Jon competed in the USA Gymnastic National Championship in St. Paul, Minnesota, where he placed second All-Around in the 16-18 age group. He missed first place by only .100 of a point. In the individual 16-18 age group events, Jon won first place in the floor exercises and in the vault.

Jon is from Longmeadow, Massachusetts and has attended The Williston Northampton School since the ninth grade. He has two older sisters, Chantal ’08 (Bryn Mawr ’12) and Fabienne ’06 (Davidson ’10), who also graduated from Williston.
