All My Sons: Rehearsal and Ticket Information

Hello All!

Believe it or not, opening night for All My Sons is right around the corner (Thursday, October 23 to be exact!). This means two things: our cast and crew are about to embark on a very busy week AND it’s time to reserve your tickets!

As usual, we would LOVE to see you all at the play. We are performing Thursday, Oct. 23 through Saturday, Oct. 25. Visit Tixato to reserve your tickets. Also, our final performance is during  Long Weekend. It would be great to have a big turnout that evening so if you’re in town that night come on down to the theater!

March 2015 Trip to India and Nepal

Hello everyone,

Due to increased regional complexity, the upcoming March 2015 trip to Jerusalem is changing course. Instead, we will be traveling to India and Nepal.

Now that we are traveling to a new destination, I am able to open up trip signups for a limited amount of time. I have 2 available slots on what will certainly be a memorable trip that will explore rich cultures, see a very different part of the world, and give participants the chance to absorb some of the most stunning scenery on the planet.

Play 4 the Cure Game on Saturday

So I am Maddy Jerolman, the captain of the girls varsity field hockey team, and as Julia Valine and I said at assembly, we are having a play 4 the cure game this Saturday at 7 p.m.! For that game we are going to be raising money for the research project. One of the ways we will be raising money is having a raffle and selling pink “play for the cure” bracelets. Tomorrow at both lunches the team will be sitting at the front table selling these tickets and bracelets. It will be 1 ticket for $1 or 4  tickets for $2. The bracelets will be $3. What we will be raffling off will be gift cards to Antonios, Riffs, Beansprout, Dunkin, Tandem, school store, and some other great places around town!

We will also be having a bake sale this Saturday down by the gym starting around 3, selling at some of the games going on. The raffle will be picked at half time during our game! DON’T worry if you can’t make the game it doesn’t mean you can’t buy a raffle ticket. We will find a way to get it to you! This is for an amazing cause and it would mean so much if our community would pitch in! I hope everyone enjoys their nights and hope to see you purchasing some tickets and bracelets tomorrow at lunch! Go WILDCATS!

Thanks a ton,
Maddy Jerolman & Julia Valine

Special Assemblies with Andrew Watson

Andrew Watson, whose talks offer strategies for studying and teaching, returns to the Williston Northampton School this week for special sessions with the faculty and students.

In his presentations, Mr. Watson, of Translate the Brain, combines news about modern neurological studies with tips on how that information can translate into practical, every day applications.

Last November, Mr. Watson was warmly received when he spoke at the Upper School assembly. In his talk, “How to Study Less and Learn More,” Mr. Watson had students play a numbers game with a surprisingly easy solution. He then offered similarly straightforward ways for students to get better grades while doing less work, such as ways to learn, forget, and relearn the material; focus on the task at hand; and get enough sleep.

“Different kinds of sleep support different kinds of memory,” he said at the time. “Sleep is homework.”

He will give a similar talk to Upper School students on Friday, September 25 at the 8:30 a.m. assembly.

At the all-faculty meeting the night before, Mr. Watson will speak about motivation with an emphasis on stereotype threat. Mr. Watson’s presentation will include references to the work of Carol Dweck, professor of psychology at Columbia University, who’s work focuses on the role of motivation in education.

Community Service at Riverside on Friday

A group of students will be heading to Riverside Industries to help clean this Friday evening. The group will be meeting in front of the Schoolhouse at 5:45 p.m. on Friday to walk over. Contact Ms. Garrity with questions.

The Community Service Office (a recently added desk in the Activities Office) is also planning upcoming to help out with Pioneer Valley Habitat for Humanity this fall.  The work will be on 246 East Street in Easthampton on Sundays, 12:00 pm – 4:00 p.m. More information (and dates) will be announced soon.
