Schedule Adjustments on Feb. 13

While we are enjoying the beauty of a New England winter, we also need to make some changes in our schedule for tonight and tomorrow.
For today and tonight:
1)      Athletic practices and times have been adjusted and communicated to players and coaches.
2)      The Birch Dining Commons is closing tonight at 6:30 p.m.
3)      Students may not leave the main campus at any time for the rest of the day.
4)      This evening’s program associated with the Diversity Conference has been cancelled.
5)      There will be a mandatory check-in for boarders in their dorms at 7:30, after which time everyone stays in the dorm and quiet hours will be observed in the place of study hall.
For tomorrow (Friday):
1)      While the school will be open for business at our normal time, the Diversity Conference programming will be delayed by one hour and begin at 9:30 a.m. in the Athletic Center.  Attendance will be taken by advisory at that that time.
2)      Breakfast will be served from 8:00 – 9:15.
As always, your safety is our primary concern.  Please use caution moving around campus.  Day students (and their parents) should use common sense as to whether they will be able to come in to school in the morning.  As per usual, if a day student is not coming in to school, please communicate that to the Dean’s Office.

Winter Perspective

For those of you who are sick of winter, I offer the following:

  • We have gained 1 hour and 32 minutes of daylight since the shortest day of the season
  • Sunny mornings are dawning with the accompaniment of songs by cardinals, nuthatches, chickadees, and sparrows
  • The average daily temperature (historically speaking) has begun to rise
  • Black bear cubs are being born all around western Massachusetts
  • The NCAA basketball tournament starts in slightly over a month
  • Red-winged blackbirds will be showing up any week now
  • Spring Break starts in less than a month and will last a good three weeks this year!
  • The Red Sox equipment truck and pitchers and catchers have arrived in Florida for spring training.
  • I’ll be tapping my maple trees within the next week

Hang in there!

Sweater Day on Feb. 13

Hey Everyone!

GET EXCITED FOR SWEATER DAY!!!!

Commemorating the last day of the Green Cup Challenge, the Sustainable Life Club thought a sweater day would be a nice activity that includes the entire school in a little conservation-mindedness.

We will be turning down the heat in classroom buildings—just slightly to 65 degrees—in order to conserve a little energy! We thought that at this temperature, it is not distracting from the classroom atmosphere, but is a good incentive to wear a sweater for the conclusion of the Green Cup Challenge. We also hope to help you gain a little awareness about methods of conservation.

I am looking forward to wearing sweaters with you all! REMEMBER TO STAY IN DRESS CODE!!

As always, let me know if you have any questions, ideas or thoughts! I love listening to ya’ll!
