SAT This Saturday, December 7th

Hello!

For those registered to take the SAT this Saturday, please read on. If you are taking the Regular SAT Reasoning test, you should report to the Athletic Center by 8 a.m. at the latest. If you are taking subject tests, you should report to the college counseling building by 7:45 a.m. at the latest.

Everyone must have their admission ticket, Williston ID, and two already sharpened number 2 pencils. Bring water and a snack with you to have during breaks. Please let your Saturday teachers know ahead of time that you will not be in class that day.

Later today, there will be a roster of who is registered to take the SAT at the front desk of the Schoolhouse just in case you need to check if you are registered. The dining hall will have a hot breakfast ready by 7:15 a.m., so go and have a hearty breakfast ahead of time. Here is a link that will tell you everything you need to know about test day.

Visual Arts Faculty Exhibition

Some of you may not know that in addition to being great teachers, smart people and sharp dressers your visual arts faculty are also working artists. What does this mean? It means that when not teaching they can often be found making art. This also means that as art teachers they not only talk the talk, but walk the walk as well. As art teachers we know that teaching and making art are mutually inspirational and result in excellence all around!

What kind of art do they make? Stop by the Grubbs Gallery to see the 2013 Williston Visual Art Faculty Exhibit which will open on Thursday, Dec. 5 and be on view until January 6th. See work by Mr. Hing, Ms. White, Ms. Chambers, Ms. Verdickt, Ms. Goldstein and Ms. Hume! The artists’ reception will be on Sunday, Dec. 15th from 2-4, so stop by to support your teachers!

3rd Annual Holiday Cards for Troops

Hey Everyone!

The Class of 2014 is doing a holiday card drive for troops again this year!

Starting today at lunch there will be a table with blank holiday cards in which you can write messages to soldiers stationed overseas during the holidays. We have done this for the past two years and have gotten great results and lots of positive feedback! The table will be there today through Friday so please send thanks again this year!

This is a really easy and nice way to give back a little during the holiday season and it would be great if you would all take the time today, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday  to just write a brief message.

  • Hot Chocolate Run fundraising for Violence Prevention leaving Schoolhouse at 9 a.m.

  • Open Gym 1:15-5:15 p.m.
  • Holyoke Mall Shuttles 1-5 p.m.
  • Travel Forms with Dorm in evening

    • Loomis Chaffee Prism Summer Dance Night departs Schoolhouse 7:45 p.m.
  • Sunday December 15
    • Habitat for Humanity leaving Schoolhouse at 11:30 a.m.
    • Tuesday December 17
      • Community Banquet in Birch Dining Commons 5:45 p.m.

If you sign up for weekend activities, you are expected to attend.  If you do not attend, and do not alert Mr. Spearing, the faculty chaperone, or the Dean on Duty prior to the event you will lose weekend privileges the following week.

Williston at the Hot Chocolate Run

Ms. Talbot will be taking a group to 10th Annual Hot Chocolate Run for Safe Passage in Northampton on Sunday, Dec. 8. The Hot Chocolate Run is to raise money to prevent domestic violence in Hampshire County. If you’d like to donate, you can go directly to the Williston Northampton School team page by clicking here.

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a wonderful break and are excited about beginning the winter trimester. This week we have three assemblies with the first tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m. This will be the only assembly where students can present, show a video, or make announcements, so they should let me know by 8 p.m. tonight if they would like to do that. As always, any media presentations should be sent to Mr. Raffetto ASAP.

We Live in Texas

We live in Texas now, and Oregon, and Rome,
dispersed, our blind intentions lifted up and cradled down,
toward sleek sea-side apartments, or a dusty border town,
so many, many miles from our home.

It exists now only as the faintest memory,
which should be strong and good, but might not
always be, except for tiny sacred moments,
in speckled shade that quivers on the gate,
a falling breeze, and netted butterflies,
and from the porch, a plaintive cry, come in now,
it’s time for dinner, the streetlights are on.

I can see them glowing, and the high hedges,
the basement window, cracked, and the curb
where I used to sit, and I can hear
the milkman clanking, and ice cream bells,
a smell of apples and hot tar steaming in the road,
but as I strain to look inside, I cannot see them,
just the empty room where once they stood.

We live in Texas now, and Oregon, and Rome,
and though we keep a tender heart, we’re comforted to learn
that time can never be reversed, and we cannot return
to find our histories, our past, the place we once called home.

Library hours today (Friday) until 9:45 p.m.
Tomorrow, Saturday, the library will be open 8-11 a.m.

The library will close on Saturday for Thanksgiving Break and will reopen on Tuesday morning, Dec. 3, at 8:00 a.m.
