8th Grade Shakespeare Project- TONIGHT!

The class of 2017 Proudly Presents

A Midsummer Night’s Dream
By William Shakespeare
TONIGHT in the Williston Theatre at 7pm.

Come see the culmination of the 8th grade Shakespeare Project! Every student in the class of 2017 contributed to making the play to life.

The play, one of Shakespeare’s most beloved, revolves around the marriage of the Duke of Athens to the Queen of the Amazons, the adventures of four young lovers in the woods outside Athens, and a group of amateur actors rehearsing a play for the Duke’s wedding. They all do the best they can but it gets difficult when a band of fairies decides to wreak havoc on the lives of the humans.

Tickets for the performance are free. Please make sure to reserve seats for the show at wnsboxoffice.tixato.com/buy

Be sure not to miss out on this terrific show- Williston’s very first 8th grade play. We look forward to seeing you there!

A Good Day To Be A Wildcat Premiers Tonight at 6:30

On May 17, with a final win over Cushing Academy, the girls lacrosse team completed an unprecidented third undefeated season. Under the guidance of Head Coach Jen Fulcher and captains Karly Simpson ’13, Amanda Cronin ’13, and Kirstyn Kruse ’13, the team scored 202 goals and allowed only 50. With 15-0 tally, they also set a new school record for wins in a season.

Senior Jilly Lim has been documenting the team throughout their incredible 2013 run—including 15 wins against perennial powerhouse opponents including Hotchkiss, Gunnery, and Deerfield.  Her documentary on the lacrosse, A Good Day To Be A Wildcat, premiers tonight, May 22, at 6:30 p.m. in the StuBop.

From director Jilly Lim ’13:

A Good Day To Be A Wildcat is one of my favorite film projects I have worked on.  The pre-production started in late February when I met with Ms. Fulcher to discuss the idea of a documentary.  Detailed planning happened during the spring break when I mapped out the majority of the film, though there have been many changes in the video’s structure since then.

Being around the girls’ varsity lacrosse team for the last three months have made me fall in love with lacrosse once again—I have loved every moment of it, the practices and games and interviews, the night game at Choate Rosemary Hall and the interactions with the coaches and the players, and the hours of editing in the photo lab.

I want to thank everybody on the team for helping me make this project possible, especially Coach Fulcher and Captains Karly, Kirstyn, and Amanda. Observing the love and respect everyone on the team has for each other has been really awesome.
Thank you and enjoy the film!

A Tale of Lemonade and the Boys from Clare

A picture of kindergartener Stella’s sign

“My girls and a friend from school had a little lemonade stand outside our house on Sunday afternoon. Their friend’s mom [Jessica Spanknebel] recently suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm, and they started a “Reading for Recovery” fundraiser at their school.  They wanted to sell lemonade to raise a bit more.  It’s a tough street for a lemonade stand, especially on a cloudy day—no takers. That was until our fabulous Clare boys and their friends from other dorms bought cup after cup lemonade (at 10 cents a cup), and helped the girls raise nearly $8 that afternoon.  (The girls’ efforts on the literacy fundraiser topped $2,000.)  The boys drank lemonade, sat, and chatted with the girls.  It was another example of the character around here—it meant the world to all three girls!”

-Sue Michalski, language teacher and Clare dorm head
