About the production:
In October, 1998 a 21-year-old University of Wyoming student named Matthew Shepard was kidnapped, brutally beaten, tied to a fence on the outskirts of Laramie, Wyoming, and left to die. Mr. Shepard was the victim of a hate crime that would soon become the focus of the entire nation—he was killed because he was gay.

Sports photographer Ron Wyatt will present the next in Williston Northampton School’s ongoing lecture series on Thursday, April 11, at 6:30 p.m. in the Dodge Room, Reed Campus Center. The event is free and open to the public.
Mr. Wyatt was assigned by Kodak to photograph the Summer Olympic Games in Athens in 2004 and Beijing in 2008, and is a self-taught photographer. In his presentation, Mr. Wyatt will talk about his experiences covering the Olympic Games, as well as finding the right equipment and camera set-up, planning a shooting strategy, and the importance of knowing the game. This is a perfect way to learn about sports photography from a pro, and see images of milestone sporting events.
As Mr. Wyatt notes on his website, his “first experience with photography was an unsuccessful photo documentation of my honeymoon.” Since then, Mr. Wyatt has covered the NBA, NFL and Major League Baseball, among others. His photos have appeared in various publications such as USA Today, Black Enterprise Magazine, Time Magazine, Newsweek, TV Guide, and ESPN. He currently covers corporate assignments for companies that include Six Flags, Eastman Kodak, Continental Airlines, CVS, Pepsico, and Verizon.

The next photographer in the Williston Northampton School’s ongoing lecture series is photographer and video artist Claire Rosen. Ms. Rosen will give her lecture on Thursday, March 28, at 6:30 p.m. in the Dodge Room, Reed Campus Center.
According to the statement on her website, Ms. Rosen blends a fine art sensibility with commercial work to create whimsical imagery inspired by fairy tales, fables, and circus arts. Her work incorporates themes of vintage circus, burlesque, magic, curiosities, and natural science.
Ms. Rosen’s work has been exhibited widely and is included in many public and private collections and in fine art galleries including Asymmetrick Arts, Gallery 51, Ken Fulk Inc., and Verve Gallery. Her commercial clients include Neiman Marcus, Nike Global Football, and Random House Publishing.
A graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design, Ms. Rosen received a liberal arts AA degree from Bard College at Simon’s Rock.

To prepare for the upcoming Willy-lympics II, the creators asked students all around campus to take a mini-challenge with pair of glasses and a tiny basket.
Join Willy-Lympics by sending team submissions to Cade Zawacki at cazawacki@williston.com. The deadline for submissions is March 1.
Four students will have their films screened at a showcase of young filmmakers in Northampton this weekend.
Jilly Lim, Cade Zawacki, Alex Kozikowski, and Charles Frank all had work accepted by YouthFilm 2013, which will take place at the Academic of Music Theatre on Saturday.
In congratulatory letters to the students, the festival’s review panel described the various films as “really well made,” “funny,” “original,” “captivating,” and “professional.”
The reviewers described Ms. Lim’s film, The Guilt, as having an “amazing story, great camera angles, you’re not afraid to move the camera around…The story hits home.”
Boom Guy 2.0 by Mr. Zawacki was described as “funny, clever, original idea…That last scene with Ed is great, the cherry on top!”
Mr. Kozikowski’s Three Short Pieces earned praise for having excellent camerawork with “slow, short pans, the low angles, everything is really captivating and flows smoothly. The light is really nice as well. An excellent film!”
The review panel also accepted two of Mr. Frank’s films, Breezeless and Listen, which they described as “a notch above the rest. Camera work…lighting, colors, editing, all worked so well together and told such great visual stories. And great performances, too! A really professional job.”
YouthFilm 2013 will be held Saturday, February 23, from 12 to 3 pm at the Academy of Music Theatre in Northampton.

Hello Everyone,
On Tuesday, February 26th at the Athletic Center, the 12th annual Muji Muhammad 3-on-3 basketball tournament will be held. Play will begin at 2:00 p.m. Over the years, the “Muji” has been a competitive and fun tournament and a great way to bridge the gap between the winter sports season and spring break.
A little bit of history: Muji Muhammad was post-graduate student from Boston during the 2001-2002 school year, and he and Mr. Dietrich (who worked in the admissions office) brought the idea for a co-ed, 3-on-3 tournament to Williston from their previous school, Nobles. Even after Muji graduated, we kept the tournament going and named it in his honor. For years, Jeremy Deason, middle school teacher and boys’ basketball coach, ran the tournament. After he left Williston to become the athletic director at Stoneleigh Burnham a few years back, Mr. Kudla and I have had the pleasure of organizing this event.
Who can play? Anyone in the Williston community. Here are the rules: teams must be co-ed, and a team cannot have more than one varsity basketball player (male or female) or more than one adult on it.
Sign-ups: Email your team to me by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 21st. Let me know which player is the Team Captain and know that we will be using a regulation girls’ basketball for the tourney. Mr. Kudla and I and a top-secret committee will meet in a top-secret location the night of February 21st to make up the tournament bracket.
T-Shirts! You can order your Muji 12 t-shirts during lunch (or on the English floor) this week. Half of the proceeds from t-shirt sales will help defray the costs of the baseball team’s 2014 spring break trip to Florida and the other half will be given to charity.
