Success at Classics Day!

We are excited to tell you that Classics Day was a resounding success!  We are grateful to our chaperones, Andrew Syfu and Bob Blanchette, who tirelessly accompanied students to events and watched over all 65 of our Latin students.

Our students outdid themselves this year!  Eighteen students won a total of 12 awards in all categories (Art, Latin Recitation, Costume, and Certamen–the Latin trivia contests).

Level 1 Certamen, 2nd place: Sima Gandevia, Chip Young, Molly Zawacki, Hunter Adams.

Costumes, 2nd place: Colin Brown (Apollo), Charlie Fogg (Cupid), Maggie Fitzgerald (Daphne)

Advanced Poetry Recitation, 1st place: Dylan Kenseth; 2nd place: Brendan Hellweg

Advanced Drama Recitation, 1st place: Jilly Lim and Kat Kaisla.

 

Gallery Talk with Chuck Stern

Chuck Stern, the Grubbs Gallery exhibiting artist for February, will be giving a talk in the gallery on Feb. 11th at 9:40 AM (period C). His paintings are abstract, interesting and fun. He recently gave a talk for students at Eagle Hill which was very well received by them. He will talk about his life, challenges he has faced, his creative process and what keeps him going and creating artistically. Please feel free to attend this talk!

Monday Menu: Jan. 21

Breakfast
Poached eggs, home fries, pancakes, yogurt bar, assorted eggs at the grill

Lunch
Vegetable or tomato soup, hot turkey sandwich, mashed potatoes, gravy, peas and baby carrots, macaroni and cheese, natural cut baked fish

Pasta bar: gnocchi, marinara or alfredo sauce
Panini station with sliced pastrami, corned beef, Swiss cheese and assorted vegetables, ciabatta bread

Dinner
Breaded veal cutlet, marinara or mushroom sauce, roasted potatoes, green beans, baked sole, spicy chick peas with ginger

Pasta bar: pasta, marinara or meat sauce, ratatouille vegetables

Sunday Menu: Jan. 20

Brunch
French toast sticks, sausage, hash browns, make-your-own waffles-toppings, vegetable frittata, warm cinnamon rolls, assorted eggs and omelets at the grill

Dinner
Chicken breast with broccoli and cheese, gravy, Mediterranean fish stew,  rice pilaf, Capri blend vegetable, vegetable-tofu  stuffed tomatoes.

Pasta bar: pasta, marinara  sauce, Asian or rice noodles, vegetable or chicken broth, sautéed vegetables

Saturday Menu: Jan. 19

Breakfast
Egg cheese and potato bake skillet bake, monkey bread, bacon, home fries
assorted eggs and omelets at the grill

Lunch
Breaded or unbreaded chicken fillets, BBQ or teriyaki sauces, spicy orange tempeh with vegetables, American chop suey with meat, broccoli and carrots

Pasta bar: chef’s choice pasta, marinara  sauce

Dinner
Country fried steak, tomato sauce or gravy, mashed potato, cauliflower and carrots, stuffed zucchini, onion rings, crab cakes

Classics Day at Mount Holyoke
