Children’s Theater at Majestic

From Rick Teller:

As some of you may know, I have a second gig as a theater photographer.  One of my clients is the Majestic Theater at 131 Elm Street in West Springfield.  For the next six weeks they are putting on children’s theater, specifically The Princess and the Pea (this week and July 30-Aug. 1), Rumpelstiltskin (July 16-18 & Aug 6-8), and The Tale of the Frog Prince (July 23-25 & Aug. 13-15).  Performances are Monday-Wednesday at 10:00 am and 1:00 pm, plus Monday evenings at 6:30.  Tickets are a mere eight bucks.

The company is a group of very talented local high school students, with a professional director.  They go all out.  If you’re looking for ways to keep your children entertained, I can’t recommend this enough!

Thanks!

Robotics Workshop

Summer Greetings!

Hot on the heels of Laurel’s announcement of the Summer Dance Intensive, I thought I’d plug a different kind of summer workshop. This workshop information was posted on the Williston website, but in case you missed it I have summarized it below.

The Williston Northampton School is presenting two identical five-day Robotics Workshop Sessions on its campus for rising 9th through 12th grade students this summer. Session I runs from July 23-27 and Session II from August 6-10.

The workshop’s emphasis is to introduce the writing of C++ programs for autonomous control of pre-built NXT microprocessor-based robots. Students will compete with each other in a number of robot “Challenges” designed to test the accuracy of the robot’s movement as guided by the student’s programming. No prior C++ programming experience is required, but students should be competent in using a computer running OS X or Windows 7.

This is a day program that runs from 8:45 in the morning until 4:00 in the afternoon. Lunch is provided in Williston’s Birch Dining Commons for all workshop students. Tuition is $300 for the week and enrollment is limited to 12 students per workshop. The deadline for registration (and a $50 deposit) is due by June 29th, but the Williston Community has an additional two weeks (July 13th).  As of today, we do have some remaining space in BOTH sessions. Registration is based on a first come basis.

Please visit this URL which links to the Williston Summer Programs website for the Robotics Workshop. Detailed program information and all needed forms can be accessed there.

Folks can also contact RoboticsWorkshop@Williston.com or my office (413-529-3334) if they have any specific questions or concerns about the Workshop.

Please pass this email on to anyone you would recommend for this program. They do not have to be members of the Williston Community! If your student is/will be attending Williston, s/he may wish to opt for the full Robotics sequence offered in the fall and winter trimesters instead.

Thanks,

Summer Dance Intensive

Happy summer everyone!

I’m writing to make sure everyone knows that the first ever Williston Summer Dance Intensive will be held in August right here on the Williston campus! Open to dancers aged 12- 18, this week long intensive camp offers technique and composition classes to students who wish to explore their own creative voices, or to work on building their strength, flexibility, versatility, and technical skills. The camp will be held the week of August 13 – 18, and will end with an informal showing of dance for parents and friends on Saturday the 18th.

Registration is happening now and is ongoing until August 1st. There are limited spaces, so please let me know if you would like to participate. I invite each of you to check out the web page for more information at www.williston.com/summerdance. As always, please feel free to let me know if you have any questions. If you know someone who would be interested in participating, but is not a Williston student, please pass this email on.

Thanks everyone! Enjoy your summer!
