Special Speaker: Friday April 26th

Hello All,

In case you missed it in assembly this morning, we are hosting Lesléa Newman on campus this Friday April 2th at 6:15.

Lesléa Newman is an acclaimed author and activist who rose to prominence when she wrote Heather Has Two Mommies, published in 1988. The book was the first to document same-sex parents in a positive light. Scheduled to speak at the University of Wyoming in conjunction with Pride Week in 1998, Ms. Newman arrived on campus the day Matthew Shepard died. She recently published October Mourning, a book of poetry for young people in response to Matthew’s death. As a member of the Matthew Shepard Foundation’s Speaker’s Bureau, Ms. Newman speaks at schools and universities all over the country.

We are thrilled to have her speak to us before the show on Friday night. She will be reading from her book and talking about her experience in Laramie in 1998 . The event is free and will be held in the theatre. Please reserve a spot for the event at www.williston.com/theaterproductions.

I encourage all community members to come out to support this terrific event- we are very lucky to have her on campus with us. Please let your students know and encourage them to come as well. Her talk will link well with so much of what we are teaching- writing, social justice, community activism- so no doubt there are many classroom connections to be made here as well.

For more info about Ms. Newman, please visit her website www.lesleanewman.com

Many thanks for your support!

Emily
