Final Call for Janus Submissions

​The deadline for submissions is the end of the day on Wednesday, MAY 14. If you have any poetry, prose, photography, paintings, drawings, songs, short films, or any other kind of artistic work that you would like to have featured in the magazine, please attach the work as an attachment to an email and send it to janus@williston.com

The deadline date was incorrect in a previous email. We apologize for this horrible, horrible mistake. We have written a short poem in order to express our feelings of sorrow for this grievous error. We hope you enjoy, and we pray that you still will send us your work.

Blood Drive on Friday, May 16

It’s time for our 2nd Red Cross Blood Drive of the year.  Please consider donating or volunteering to help out.  It’s a great way to help your community.

At long last, it’s the final BLUE WEEK of the year.  Celebrate by making a visit to the Writing Center!  We would love to read your history research papers, your final Williston Scholars papers, your Paper(s) of Many Parts, and whatever else you have in the hopper this week!

AP History and English Reminders for 2014-15

Students who would like to take AP History or English classes in the 2014-15 academic year should know the following:

AP English candidates must meet with their current English teachers to discuss whether AP is a good fit or not. There is a placement exam on Wednesday, May 21 from 1:00-2:00 p.m. that is an AP-style analytical essay based on a prompt. Students will be notified of the department’s decision in early- to mid-June.

AP History candidates are required to sit for an entry test, which will require students to write an essay on a topic after reading a presentation document. No advance preparation is required or expected. All students who take the entry test will be notified about the outcome of their application by the department by Wednesday, May 28, 2014, via email. AP U.S. History candidates do not have to take an entry test if they are currently enrolled in AP European History and have maintained a grade average of 90 or above for the first and second trimesters. Students will be notified the last week of school of the department’s decision.

Admission Intern Application Due May 14

Hello Wildcats!

We are very happy to announce that the Admission Office seeks a group of eight Admission Interns to organize, manage, and oversee the day-to-day functioning of campus visits through tour guide coordination and post-visit outreach.  Responsibilities include participating in new tour guide training, matching visitors and tour guides, following up with tour guides electronically and in person, meeting and greeting prospective families, and emailing visitors after they leave Williston.  Admission Interns will play an important role in shaping the future of Williston; it is a position with big responsibility and big potential reward!

Applications are due by Wednesday, May 14 at 10:30 p.m. to Ms. Talbot Syfu.  You can copy the below application and submit your answers to Ms. Talbot-Syfu via email, if that is easier for you.

Williston Scholars Classes for 2014-15

I wanted to pass along some information about the six Williston Scholars classes we’re excited to be offering next year. The Williston Scholars program aims to provide students who are passionate about a subject with the opportunity to engage in a trimester of rigorous study with a Williston faculty member and collaborators from the local colleges followed by a trimester of directed project work. Below you’ll find descriptions of the programs and who’s eligible for them. If you’d like any further info you can feel free to email me or contact the teacher of the course you’re interested in.

 Williston Scholars Registration Information, 2014-15

Williston has been building its Williston Scholars program over the past few years. The program aims to provide students who are passionate about a subject with the opportunity to engage in a trimester of rigorous study with a Williston faculty member and collaborators from the local colleges followed by a trimester of directed project work. We’ve had great success with the program in its first few years and are excited to offer six courses next year. The courses are described in detail in our course catalog (www.williston.com/courses) and are summarized below.

AP English Reads With You on May 16

I thought this would be a good time to add something to your “to-do” list, so here goes:  AP English 12 is spending our last days together reading in small groups, and we would like to invite all of you to join us.  If you’re interested, please pick one of the following books to begin reading this week or next:

Cartwheel, Jen DuBois ’02 (Williston Grad!)

We would love to have you join us for class during G or B block on Friday, May 16.  Maybe you have already read one of these books and you would like to come chat about it, or maybe you have been looking for a good book to read; this is a great excuse!  No need to prepare anything or to be an expert on the book you read, and no need to have read very far…believe me, they won’t be far along either.
