Great Results for Williston Ski Team

Alpine Skiing Coach Ed Hing (who is also teaches photography and digital video) reports that, despite the brutal temperatures on Wednesday, January 8, the Williston Northampton skiers had an awesome first race.

“Yes, it was insanely cold,” Mr. Hing wrote in an email. “Yes, the second varsity run was as icy as a skating rink. YES, WNS SKIERS ROCKED MISL ONE!!!”

The girls varsity placed second of eight, the boys varsity A team placed third of 12, the boys varsity B team placed six of 12, the JV girls placed second of four. See the full results at the Mount Institute Ski League website under “Race #1” on the top left.

“An amazing day for Williston Skiing,” wrote Mr. Hing. “This season is off to a great start. Congratulations (Snow Leopards?)”

National Merit Recognizes Six Williston Students

Out of the approximately 1.5 million students who took the PSAT in their sophomore year, a small percentage were recognized for their exceptional academic promise.  Students from the top 5 percent were awarded the distinction of “commended” and the Williston Northampton School had six students who received this distinction. Academic Dean Greg Tuleja presented the following seniors with their awards during the Upper School Assembly on January 7.

Alicia Barry
James Borden
Matt Cavanaugh
Brendan Hellweg
Maddy Stern
Persis Ticknor-Swanson

According to a press release from the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Program, commended students have demonstrated “outstanding potential for academic success…We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success.”
