Northampton Pride March Field Trip on May 3

Some 19 Williston students will attend the Northampton Pride March on Saturday, May 3, from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The march is an annual event held on the first Saturday of May each year. The trip is being organized by the Community Service Club. Some students will be leaving for this event at 10:30 a.m., and others will leave at 11:30 am.  One bus will be returning at 1:30 p.m. and another returning at 4:00 p.m. The field trip is being overseen by Emily Vezina, Stan Samuelson, Rachel Chambers, and Susanna White.

Chorus Field Trip to UMASS Fine Arts Center on April 28

The Caterwaulers and Widdigers will visit the UMass Fine Arts Center on Monday, April 28. They have the opportunity to sing side by side with the UMass Chamber Choir, work with Director of Choral Activities, Dr. Tony Thornton, and perform for their ensembles. They will also have a question and answer session regarding singing at the collegiate level, as well as audition tips for students applying to college for music. The field trip is required for all 33 students who are enrolled in Male Chorus or Female Chorus with Joshua Harper, who will be overseeing the trip.

Field Trip to Vernal Pools on April 10

Thirteen students from Outdoor Ecology class will be heading to Mt. Tom on Thursday evening to visit some local vernal pools and witness the mating activities of amphibians. The class will leave from the parking lot by Scott Hall at 8:00 p.m. and return around 10:30 p.m. or so. Teachers Paul Luikart and Liz Kay are supervising the trip.

Field Trip to Little Colombia on April 29

A dozen Spanish Cinema Conversation students will visit Jackson Heights, Queens, New York, on April 29 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Jackson Heights, also known as “Little Colombia” for its large Colombian immigrant population, is the setting of two movies of the Cinema class. Students will learn first-hand about “Little Colombia” by interviewing community leaders, one of which is Orlando Tobon, known as “The Mayor of Little Colombia” who served as co-producer of the award-winning movie “Maria Full of Grace.” Nat Simpson will be overseeing the trip.

Field Trip to MoMA on Feb. 26

The Contemporary Arts and Culture class will head to the Museum of Modern Art in NYC on Feb. 26, 2014 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The field trip is required for the 12 students in the class and will be proctored by Fine and Performing Arts teacher Natania Hume.

Current exhibitions at the museum include: Isa Genzken: Retrospective;Isaac Julien: Ten Thousand Waves; and Ileana Sonnabend: Ambassador for the New.
