Please Vote

Hello –

Please remember to vote tomorrow, Tuesday November 6th.  While the presidential election and a close race for US Senate matter a great deal, one important question of local significance is Question 4 regarding the Easthampton School Budget.

Our voices and votes matter on this question—and we can make a real difference by choosing to vote and how we cast that ballot.  As an elected official serving on the School Committee my own position on this question is clear—whatever your position, please make it known.  A democracy works best when everyone participates – please vote!

Thank you

Hurricane Sandy Updates

For ongoing updates on Hurricane Sandy, visit the Community Alerts page.

Hurricane Sandy is expected to impact Western Massachusetts between 2:00 p.m. today (Monday, October 29) and tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m. (Tuesday, October 30).

We will be meeting with all students who are currently on campus in the Birch Dining Commons at 11:30 a.m. this morning. After that meeting, students will be asked to remain in the dorms that are open over the Fall Break. We have food and water and we’ll be serving dinner in each of those dorms during the storm. Residential faculty are supervising.

We are anticipating the possible loss of power on campus, but we will be working to keep our website and Facebook page updated regularly as the storm progresses. If you have questions, you may call (413) 529-3000 or email David Koritkoski, Assistant Dean of Students.

Thank you for your part in helping to keep our community safe.

Sincerely,

Robert W. Hill III

World Civilizations Africa Museum

Hi All,

I’m writing to let you know that we will be holding the World Civilizations Africa Museum in the gym on Tuesday, November 6 from 6:30-8:00 p.m.  Students are working on research projects in which they focus on a global issue and its application in sub-Saharan Africa.  The primary way that the students will then demonstrate their understanding is by putting together a museum display.

Following the viewing at 7:30, Ben Demerath and Paul Luikart will talk about their experiences living and traveling in Africa.  We would love to get lots of people to attend!  If you would like ideas about how to use the museum as an extra credit opportunity for your classes please let me know.

Thanks,
Sarah Klumpp, Donnie McKillop, and Peter Valine (the World Civ Team)

Spirit Week Dress

Happy Spirit Week!

Mr. Koritkoski and I would like to follow-up regarding the particulars of Spirit Week.  We were so impressed with the Powder Puff game and how you all conducted yourself on Sunday afternoon.  A lot of fun was had by all and we’d like to continue that positive energy and enthusiasm throughout this week.

As Maddy’s email explained, we have themed days for the remainder of the week and we look forward to having some fun but would like to remind you that the spirit of dress code should be adhered to.  Students should be fully clothed, clothing should not be revealing, ripped or torn.  Dress should be appropriate so as not to be disruptive to classroom activities or atmosphere.

Please use your best judgement as you plan your attire on these days.  As Maddy stated, we have expanded spirit days from one day or Williston wear to three days of different attire. The success  of spirit week will be dependent upon your judgement, collective spirit and involvement.

Here is the schedule:

Wednesday: Dress up day (as fancy as you would like to be! Have fun with it)

Thursday: Twin Day (the winner of the online voting)

Friday: Dress down day with Williston apparel, meaning you can be out of dress code from the waist up as long as it is Williston clothing.

Please be respectful, reasonable and appropriate when dressing for theme days to ensure the most positive experience for everyone! (And our ability to continue this tradition in future years!)

Rag Shag Parade Info

Please make a note that this Wednesday, October 24, is the annual Rag Shag Parade in Easthampton. This community event for young children is sponsored by the City of Easthampton, and it is a favorite fall tradition. I wanted to make you are aware of the parade, as it may impact parent pick-up at the school that evening, as well as access to parts of campus.

The parade route is as follows:

At 6:30 p.m., the parade will begin at Maple Street School. It goes down Cottage Street, bears right on to Union Street, goes around the rotary, and then on to Park Street. The parade ends in front of the Reed Campus Center.

The driveway around the quad will not be accessible from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Pick-up alternatives are the Athletic Center or the Middle School, and you should plan accordingly. If there is rain on Wednesday, the parade will be postponed until Thursday, October 25.

Thank you,
Traci Wolfe
