Williston’s We the People Heads to Nationals

To say that the final scores in the We the People state competition on Saturday were close is putting things mildly. With final scores in the 900-point range, there was a just a 12-point difference between the top two teams.

“It’s like being one point behind in a 90-point basketball game,” said Peter Gunn, faculty advisor for the school’s We the People team. “That’s how close it was.”

On Saturday, January 26, The Williston Northampton School team placed second out of 19 schools—just a dozen points behind the winning Academy of Notre Dame. The second place finish was good enough for the team to earn a wild card ticket to the national championships in Washington, DC in April.

“Our young people made wonderful presentations,” Gunn wrote in an email. “They eloquently defended and extended their ideas in the following discussions.”

About Community Sustainability

By Nick Pattison ’14

Even on busy days, I love to take some time to study outside and enjoy the nature.

Bustling Wednesday lunches, an exhausting swimming practice, several long hours in the library, and studying for the next math test make our daily life seem like it is on the brim of its maximum capacity. Constantly running from class to class, with a paper in hand, cramming for the English vocabulary test next period, sometimes we are so busy doing what is assigned to us that we forget what we do best: caring.

Caring for each other happens: we somehow find a little time to take a break and relax with someone and get to know how that person is really doing. Our caring for each other makes Williston a community of connected people, able to lend a hand when necessary.

Moment of Silence: Willistonian Blog

By Nate Gordon ’16

On December 7, at the Boys Varsity Basketball game, Williston students tried something new as fans. Usually, at basketball games, fans will get loud and excited at the tip-off, marking the start of the game and then cheer each time their team scores a point. But, at this game Williston fans waited until the 10th point to make any noise at all. Until the 10th point, Williston fans were silent. But, when that 10th point came, which was scored by Junior Adey Adams, the bleachers erupted with very loud, thunderous cheer. “It was absolutely insane,” says Freshman Calvin Frye.
