News from the Library

The library’s website is being redesigned. Look for the new LibGuides, which will provide access to our online resources. This is where you will go for helpful assignment-specific guides, as well.

A color Nook tablet is available, with selected eBooks and the ability to borrow titles from other libraries.

Please remember to use your SkyDrive account when writing papers, so that your work will be continually saved outside the computer. The SkyDrive icon is on all the library computers, and your account is already set up (same as email sign-in). No urban legend this, that 4-page papers are lost in an instant when the power goes off with a blip. It happens. The library’s computers are set up differently from your own; there is no personal document storage and files are erased when the computer shuts down. Another way to safeguard your work is to use a jumpdrive and periodically save to it.

A reminder about the printer: It is a multi-functional marvel, but very s l o w in processing its beautifully executed color files. One consequence of this trade-off can result in a clutch of students waiting with varying degrees of impatience for their simple print jobs, all stuck behind a colorfully illustrated PowerPoint whose processing has brought the machine to a halt. So plan ahead and be considerate; don’t print your image-laden project at 8:25 in the morning or right before a class, times when so many others are trying to get their work out, too. If you find yourself in a pinch, maybe you could email the file to your teacher – It’s done! – and then come back later to print it. Also, if things look busy, send simple print jobs to the overflow printer.

The library will close next Tuesday evening for the Community Banquet and reopen when it is over.
