Carolina EvansOn July 11, 2014  Carolina Y Evans, age 69, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her children.

Born in Venezuela, she graduated from the North Hampton School for Girls in MA. She attended college at Georgetown Univ., and Carnegie Tech.

She was a very talented artist who loved to travel. She became a resident of Harwich in 1979.

She is survived by her children, Erik Jackson, Yancey Tovar-Rojas and her husband Jay, and Ralph Tovar and his wife Jessi, 5 grandchildren and one great grandchild. She also leaves two sisters, a niece, a nephew, several cousins and her aunt, Caroline Sutton.

Sally Gavin See ’39

Gavin SeeSally Gavin See ’39 died on April 4, 2014. She was born on July 27, 1922 in Taunton, Massachusetts, the second of four daughters.

She was the niece of Sarah B. Whitaker, co-founder of the Northampton School for Girls. Sally graduated from Northampton School for Girls in 1939. Also graduates of NSFG, her sisters Phyllis Robinson and Caroline Arnold survive her; sister Mary Brenneman preceded her in death. Sally had four children: little Sally (Sarah Helen Seigel ’62 – deceased); Tess (Ellen Hope Durant ’64); Sheena (Pamela Hathaway See ’69); and Randy (Randolph Bartlett See ’75). She had six grandchildren: Michael Pitts(’91) and Eric Pitts; Phoebe and Poppy Durant; and Gloria and Rebecca See; and six great-grandchildren: Charlie and Crosby Pitts; Natalie and Perry Shen; and Harlow and Charlie Decunto.

Lynn Sherwood Salvador ’46

SalvadorLynn Sherwood Salvador of Austin, Texas died on June 30, 2014. She was born in Beatrice, Nebraska on July 28, 1928.

She attended Vassar College and Stanford University, where she met geology doctoral student, Amos Salvador. She graduated and married Amos in June 1950. Together they had three children and were married for 57 years. Lynn was an avid reader with many interests. She became fluent in Spanish, a talent that greatly enhanced her life in Venezuelan oil camps and, later, regular trips to Spain with her husband.

Lynn is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Phillip and Christiane Salvador; her daughter and son-in-law, Rosario and Paul Blakely; sister Marian Weston; five grandchildren, Solomon Salvador, Leo Salvador, Lucas Salvador, Carla Salvador, and Claire Blakely; and 7 nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Amos; her son, Michael; sister Katharine Mills; brother Robert Sherwood; and half-sister Rosanna Freeman.

Nancy Corinne Peck Stainbrook ’42

Peck '42Nancy Corinne Peck Stainbrook of The Carriage Club at Charlotte, NC, formerly of New York City, NY, passed away on December 28th, 2010 after a brief bout of pneumonia.

She was preceded in death by her husband and best friend, Richard D. Stainbrook and her sister, Dorcas Allen and parents Mildred E. and Donald T. Peck.

Born November 25, 1924 in New Haven, CT, she graduated from Northampton School for Girls, Smith College and pursued a Graduate degree in Switzerland.

Elaine Todd Thomas Funk ’38

Elaine Todd Thomas Funk (Age 92), of Rockville, MD, passed away on December 24, 2013.

She was born in Northampton, MA in 1921 and graduated from Northampton School for Girls in 1938.

She came to Washington DC in 1945 and worked as a secretary at the Atomic Energy Commission during the Manhattan Project development.

Beloved wife of the late Franklin Harrison Funk; mother of Richard Todd Funk and mother-in-law of Lucy Ann Funk; sister of the late Donald McHardy Ferguson; grandmother of Joy Rebekah Todd Funk, Bethany Christina Funk and Joseph Franklin Funk. Also remembered by Lucy’s mother Antonina Sambuco; Lucy’s siblings Roseanne, Paul, Therese, and Carmel, in addition to many loving family and friends.

Anne Miskell Forand ’49

ForandAnne M. Forand, of Birmingham, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 29, 2014. She was 83 years old.  Anne was born March 9, 1931 in New Bedford, Massachusetts to Dr. Louis and Anne (Kerrigan) Miskell.

Anne attended Phillips (Abbott) Academy Andover, Northampton School for Girls and Marymount College of Fordham University. She raised her family in Birmingham and was a member of Holy Name Church. Anne also devoted her time as a school librarian for many years and had a life-long love for sailing, seafood and the water. She will be deeply missed.

Mrs. Forand is survived by her loving son, Dr. Joseph M. (Cathy) Forand, daughter in law, Ruth Gill Forand, and grandchildren, Katy, Amy, and Tracy. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph Forand and son, James Forand.

Devoted mother of Richard & Hilary Glovsky, Robert & Sue Glovsky, Charles & Eileen Glovsky. Loving grandmother of Sarah Glovsky; Abby Glovsky & Judson Thumm; David, Michael, Caroline and Andy Glovsky; Scott Glovsky & his fiancee Kaitlyn McNamee; Jordan Glovsky; Will & Sue Korman; Benjamin & Abigail Korman; Scott & Joanne Katz; Jordan Katz & Joanna Katz. Great grandmother of six. Dear sister of the late Janice Rittenberg and William August. Longtime close friend of Jeannie Garfinkle.

Sally Zurn Mead ’49

ZurnThe inimitable Sally Zurn Mead passed away suddenly and peacefully, on Saturday June 14, 2014, at her home in Albuquerque, N.M. She left the world on her own terms, just as she lived her life.

Sally was born in Erie on November 8, 1930, the daughter of the late Melvin and Marian Zurn. She enjoyed a childhood of sailing, sports and a wonderful circle of friends. She graduated from The Masters School, class of 1948, and attended Northampton School for Girls. Sally then attended Denison University, and left to be courted by her future husband, James M. Mead. Jim and Sally wed in August of 1953. They enjoyed fifty-one years together, until Jim’s death in 2005.

Sally made many beautiful homes for her family in Charlottesville, Va., Philadelphia, Pa., Princeton, N.J., Washington, D.C., and Albuquerque, N.M. Sally was an accomplished athlete, and particularly enjoyed tennis and golf, becoming tennis champion at the Philadelphia Cricket Club, and golf champion at Springdale Golf Course in Princeton. Sally spent many happy years in her manager position at the Junior League Shop of Washington, D.C.

Charlotte Hall Hill ’42

Hall HillCharlotte (Hall) Hill, 89, passed away May 20, 2014 of Silver Lake, NH, formerly of Winchester, MA.

Charlotte was predeceased by her husband Percy H. Hill. Daughter of the late Kenneth and Pauline (Peirce) Hall of Winchester. Charlotte was the youngest of 4 and was predeceased by sisters Nancy Gifford, Katharine Fulton and Margaret Sydney. Dear mother of Mary Ann and her late husband Jonathan Head of Wellesley and of Lisa Teahan and her husband Kevin of Winchester. Sister-in-law of Jack M. Hill of Williamsburg, VA.

Survived by grandchildren Timothy Head and wife Stacey of Boston, Daniel Head and wife Katherine of Wayland, Stephen Head of Brooklyn, NY; Jeremy Holmes, Heather Teahan and Andrew Teahan, all of Winchester; Sara (Teahan) and husband Dan OConnell of Middleborough, MA. Also survived by the Head great grandchildren Meghan, Sadie, Gretchen and Natalie and the OConnell great grandchildren Ella and Mackenzie. Charlotte also has eleven nieces and nephews of whom she was very fond. The quality and length of Charlottes life was extended these last years by her friends and neighbors and most importantly her devoted caregiver Maureen Baptiste.
