Robert Hutzler ’58

HutzlerRobert “Bob” Albert Hutzler, 74, of Delray Beach, Florida, passed away on Friday January 24, 2014. Cremation rites have been accorded. A private family service will take place at a later date.

Bob was born in New Haven CT to Charles and Elizabeth Hutzler. Bob graduated from Williston Academy in Easthampton MA. He attended Stetson University in Deland FL.

He served in the U.S. Coast Guard and was active in the Florida Farm Bureau.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents. Bob is survived by his sisters, Priscilla (Charles) Sparks of Maryland and Ruth (Ralph) Shelley of Illinois; a brother, Arthur of Iowa; and 21 nephews and nieces.

Donations in Bob’s name may be made to Bethesda Memorial Fund, Bethesda Hospital, Boynton Beach FL.

John Warfield Glaze ’43

Glaze '43John Warfield Glaze, a life-long Westfield resident, died on January 10 at his home surrounded by family.

He was born in Springfield, MA on January 2, 1925, the son of the late John Wallace Glaze and Marjorie (Warfield) Glaze

He is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley (Alger) Glaze, and his sons Jeffrey W., Southampton, MA and Jonathan W. and wife Sandra, Westfield, MA, his brother Horace W. Glaze and wife Taylor, Killington, VT and 3 grandchildren Justin W. and wife Kellie in West Springfield, Jordan W., Southampton and Jocelyn W. Glaze, Northampton, MA. Homer Guy Perkins, Jr. ’62

Perkins '62Homer Guy Perkins, Jr., 69, of Lake Wyola, Shutesbury, passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014, at the Baystate Medical Center in Springfield after a brief struggle with cancer.

Born Sept. 23, 1944, in New Haven, Conn., he was the son of Homer Guy Perkins, Sr. and Dorothy Catherine (Stock) Perkins and the brother of Maribeth Grant (Russell) of Pascoag, R.I., Hazel Adolphson of Hatfield, Caroline Perkins of Huntington, WV, Dolly Perkins (Larry Novak) of Silver Spring, Md., Faith Perkins (Jim Crotteau) of Lamoine, Maine, and Ruth Sico (Joe) of Sanford, Maine.

Jarvis Howe Ewing ’45

EwingJarvis Howe (Jock) Ewing, 87, died Monday, Nov. 25, 2013.

He was born in Milton, to artist parents Ray and Louise Ewing, and raised in Easthampton, with younger sister, Louisa.

A student at Williston Academy, he enlisted in the Navy in 1944, serving in a U.S. PT boat squadron in the Philippines as a radar man.

An early ski racer, Mr. Ewing fractured his leg after the war ended on Mt. Tom.

He entered Rhode Island School of Design in 1947, where he met Mim; they married in 1947. He graduated from RISD in 1952 with a degree in illustration.
He and his wife moved to Berlin in 1959, where he served as Scout leader, ski instructor, parade float designer, auction coordinator, conservation commissioner and on the Planning Board. He studied math at Worcester State College and worked 32 years as plastic design engineer for Chu Associates in Littleton.

He is survived by his wife, Mim; his daughter, Brenna; his grandchildren Sarah, Tyler and Blais and his wife, Denielle; and his grandson, Edric.

James Ewing ’55

EwingJames Hildreth Ewing, 75, of Lexington, formerly of Brockton, died peacefully Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013, at the Lahey Clinic after suffering a stroke.

James was born May 11, 1938, to Clifton and Lora Ewing, and grew up in Westhampton.

He was a retired electrical engineer and avid boat enthusiast. James was a graduate of Williston Academy class of 1955 and of Amherst College class of 1959.

He is survived by dear friend and partner Mathilde Wood; his children and their spouses Eleanor Gittelman and husband Arye of Seattle, Wash., Lora Ewing of New York City, N.Y., Ruth Ewing and wife Jennifer Collins of Maynard, David Ewing and wife Teresa of Longmont, Colo, and Jeannette Levitt of Chicago, Ill.; his siblings Margaret Stern, Peter Ewing and Heidi Kapsokavathis; grandchildren Rachel, Juli, Aaron, Scott, Tim, Emily, Amanda, Lily, Nick and Sophie; and several nieces and nephews.

James was predeceased by grandson Andrew Levitt.

Henry Drozdal ’40

DrozdalHenry (Hank) E. Drozdal, 93, of Jensen Beach, Fla. and formerly of Hadley, Mass., passed away Sunday, Nov. 9, 2013.

Mr. Drozdal was born in Hadley, Mass. where he lived for most of his life before retiring to Jensen Beach in 1983. Henry was a graduate of Hopkins Academy in Hadley, Mass. and of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He was the son of the late Michael and Klementine (Federkiewicz) Drozdal.

Nancy Angell DuBois ’49

AngellNancy Angell DuBois was born in Randolph, Vt., July 13, 1930, and died Nov. 25, 2013.

She was the daughter of Wilmer “Dr. Bill” Angell and Margaret Dickie Angell, of Randolph. Nancy grew up in this community and attended its school. She graduated from Randolph High School and  Northampton School for Girls, Northampton, Mass. She graduated from Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs, N.Y., in 1953.

Norman Pike ’49

PikeDr. Norman Bronson Pike, 82, of 326 Main St., Ashfield, died peacefully Friday, November 29, at home surrounded by his wife and children. He was born in Northampton, MA on February 4, 1931, the son of Norman and Merle (Bronson) Pike.

He attended grammar school and Williston Academy in Easthampton and after moving to Ashfield with his parents he attended and graduated from Sanderson Academy.He was a 1949 graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

Pike and the former Christine Micka were married in June of 1952 at the West Hatfield Lutheran Church.
