Douglas Edward Little, 68, of Southbury, CT, died on Sunday, November 19, 2017 in Middlebury. He was husband of the late Deborah Little. He was born on May 9th, 1949 in New Britain to Edward and Jennie Little. Douglas attended Williston Academy in Easthampton, MA. He graduated from Syracuse University and obtained his Master’s degree from Southern Connecticut State University. While an undergraduate, he became a brother of the Lamda Chi fraternity and met his future wife Deborah White. After graduation, he worked dutifully for many years as an educator for the State Of Connecticut and Department Of Correction. Towards the end of his time there, he suffered a severe stroke that, by all medical accounts, should have killed him. Fearlessly refusing to let it quell his passion for life, he learned to walk again, and spent the rest of his life happily doing whatever he wanted despite his physical limitations. His days became rife with traveling, investing, screenwriting, filmmaking, entrepreneurship, art collecting, shooting, and even treasure hunting. Even as his health deteriorated more in his final years, he never stopped dreaming of what he could achieve in the future. While no one will ever forget Douglas as the eccentric, entertaining man who handed out glow sticks and payed for things with two dollar bills just to brighten a day for others, he’ll be forever remembered by those closest to him for his greatest achievements: his enduring resolve, and the endlessly selfless manner in which he conducted himself as a son, husband, father, brother, uncle, friend, educator, and American. He was a paragon of how to live with purpose for both yourself and others. Douglas is predeceased by his father Edward, mother Jennie, daughter Phoebe, and wife Deborah. He is survived by his sons Edward and Radley, as well as his brothers Alan and William.

David Rimmer, of New York, NY passed away on April 15, 2017. He is survived by his wife, Ellen Sandhaus.
Peter Russell Fletcher ’67
Peter Russell Fletcher, 67, of Casco, passed away at home on Jan. 31, 2016 after a courageous fight with Parkinson’s Disease.
Peter was born June 21, 1948 in Hartford, Conn. and grew up in Berlin, Conn. Peter graduated from Williston Academy and continued on to the University of Vermont.
He served in the Connecticut National Guard and was active in Connecticut Explorer Scouts and Kiwanis Club Berlin chapter for many years and served one term as president.
At the age of 15, Peter started working for Leonard Abrahamson Home Construction. He founded Fletcher Woodworking & also worked for Arnold Carlson Construction before moving to Maine. Peter was a master artisan with wood and his workshop was a special place where he created beautiful pieces of woodwork. He passed on these skills to his son, Peter, and many others just like his father had.
Peter & his wife Cathy, whom he married in 1974, dreamed of building a home in Maine, which he did in 1998 and lived there until 2013 when they moved to an ADA house. Peter loved his family, golden retrievers, fishing, boats, sailing, camping, hiking, and enjoying nature, including embarking on an Alaskan expedition in 1969. Peter was a past member of the Kensington Congregational Church of Connecticut. He was an active member of Windham Hill UCC in Maine, and was on the board of trustees for 15 years then as a consultant and a multiple committee member.
Peter is predeceased by his parents, Russell and Natalie Fletcher. Peter is survived by his loving wife, Cathy and their three children, Cammy and Jeff Haydar of Ontario, Canada; Peter and Sarah Fletcher of Boston, and Alison Fletcher of Casco; grandchildren Cooper and Madison Haydar; siblings, Susan F. and Steven Buckley of Londonderry, N.H. and Betsy F. and Wells Peck of San Diego, Calif.; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, family & friends.
Alfred R. Carl, Jr. ’67
Alfred R. Carl, Jr., passed away Friday, Sept. 19, 2014.
Alfred was born Sept. 18, 1947, son of the late Alfred and Marian K. Carl. He grew up on his family’s farm in West Holyoke, raising berries, apples, vegetables and chickens, and keeping an apiary from the age of 12. Many old customers still fondly recall his egg route as a youngster.
He attended the Williston Northampton School, graduating with the class of 1967, and Holyoke High School, graduating from Hillsdale College in Michigan, and continued his graduate work in entomology at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
As chief apiary inspector for Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources he was meticulous to details and a thoughtful and supportive mentor, helping countless beginner and experienced beekeepers navigate the science of apiculture, subscribing to numerous journals and publications to keep up with current research.
With his wife of 32 years he operated Roundhill Orchard in Southampton, raising apples, pears, stone fruits and berries for the farm stand and for Farmers Markets, especially in Amherst and Florence, where he established deep friendships with customers, many of whom remember his parents, and now appreciate his son Andrew continuing this work.
During Al’s illness, the responsibility for most of the farm work fell to Andrew, so there was opportunity to grow closer.
Al died at home from complications of lymphoma. His family was able to care for him to the end and for this they are deeply grateful to Baystate Hospice.
He leaves his wife Kate Miller Carl; beloved daughter Jenny Kapinos (James); adored twin grandchildren Elizabeth and Thomas of Easthampton, with whom he hoped to further explore the natural world; son Andrew Douglas Carl and his partner Tricia Brown; as well as sisters-in-law Elizabeth Miller Grasty (Warren) of Virginia, Louisa Miller Hoar (William) of Maryland, and Judith Miller Conlin (Michael) of Southampton; and brother-in-law Bruce Douglas Miller and his partner Annette Piskell of Florida. He leaves his aunt Maryjule Klopfer and her partner Leo in Holyoke, cousins Robert (Patricia) Klopfer and Jim Klopfer (Stan) of Connecticut. He also leaves nieces and nephews in the area and in Georgia, at the family farm Colonsay.
He was predeceased by his uncle Robert Klopfer, cousin Ken Klopfer (Ruth), and brother-in-law Michael Conlin.
