He was born in Springfield, MA on January 2, 1925, the son of the late John Wallace Glaze and Marjorie (Warfield) Glaze

He is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley (Alger) Glaze, and his sons Jeffrey W., Southampton, MA and Jonathan W. and wife Sandra, Westfield, MA, his brother Horace W. Glaze and wife Taylor, Killington, VT and 3 grandchildren Justin W. and wife Kellie in West Springfield, Jordan W., Southampton and Jocelyn W. Glaze, Northampton, MA. Homer Guy Perkins, Jr. ’62

Perkins '62Homer Guy Perkins, Jr., 69, of Lake Wyola, Shutesbury, passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014, at the Baystate Medical Center in Springfield after a brief struggle with cancer.

Born Sept. 23, 1944, in New Haven, Conn., he was the son of Homer Guy Perkins, Sr. and Dorothy Catherine (Stock) Perkins and the brother of Maribeth Grant (Russell) of Pascoag, R.I., Hazel Adolphson of Hatfield, Caroline Perkins of Huntington, WV, Dolly Perkins (Larry Novak) of Silver Spring, Md., Faith Perkins (Jim Crotteau) of Lamoine, Maine, and Ruth Sico (Joe) of Sanford, Maine.

Jarvis Howe Ewing ’45

EwingJarvis Howe (Jock) Ewing, 87, died Monday, Nov. 25, 2013.

He was born in Milton, to artist parents Ray and Louise Ewing, and raised in Easthampton, with younger sister, Louisa.

A student at Williston Academy, he enlisted in the Navy in 1944, serving in a U.S. PT boat squadron in the Philippines as a radar man.

An early ski racer, Mr. Ewing fractured his leg after the war ended on Mt. Tom.

He entered Rhode Island School of Design in 1947, where he met Mim; they married in 1947. He graduated from RISD in 1952 with a degree in illustration.
He and his wife moved to Berlin in 1959, where he served as Scout leader, ski instructor, parade float designer, auction coordinator, conservation commissioner and on the Planning Board. He studied math at Worcester State College and worked 32 years as plastic design engineer for Chu Associates in Littleton.

He is survived by his wife, Mim; his daughter, Brenna; his grandchildren Sarah, Tyler and Blais and his wife, Denielle; and his grandson, Edric.

James Ewing ’55

EwingJames Hildreth Ewing, 75, of Lexington, formerly of Brockton, died peacefully Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013, at the Lahey Clinic after suffering a stroke.

James was born May 11, 1938, to Clifton and Lora Ewing, and grew up in Westhampton.

He was a retired electrical engineer and avid boat enthusiast. James was a graduate of Williston Academy class of 1955 and of Amherst College class of 1959.

He is survived by dear friend and partner Mathilde Wood; his children and their spouses Eleanor Gittelman and husband Arye of Seattle, Wash., Lora Ewing of New York City, N.Y., Ruth Ewing and wife Jennifer Collins of Maynard, David Ewing and wife Teresa of Longmont, Colo, and Jeannette Levitt of Chicago, Ill.; his siblings Margaret Stern, Peter Ewing and Heidi Kapsokavathis; grandchildren Rachel, Juli, Aaron, Scott, Tim, Emily, Amanda, Lily, Nick and Sophie; and several nieces and nephews.

James was predeceased by grandson Andrew Levitt.

Henry Drozdal ’40

DrozdalHenry (Hank) E. Drozdal, 93, of Jensen Beach, Fla. and formerly of Hadley, Mass., passed away Sunday, Nov. 9, 2013.

Mr. Drozdal was born in Hadley, Mass. where he lived for most of his life before retiring to Jensen Beach in 1983. Henry was a graduate of Hopkins Academy in Hadley, Mass. and of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He was the son of the late Michael and Klementine (Federkiewicz) Drozdal.

Norman Pike ’49

PikeDr. Norman Bronson Pike, 82, of 326 Main St., Ashfield, died peacefully Friday, November 29, at home surrounded by his wife and children. He was born in Northampton, MA on February 4, 1931, the son of Norman and Merle (Bronson) Pike.

He attended grammar school and Williston Academy in Easthampton and after moving to Ashfield with his parents he attended and graduated from Sanderson Academy.He was a 1949 graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

Pike and the former Christine Micka were married in June of 1952 at the West Hatfield Lutheran Church.

Dr. David L. Kendall ’40

KendallDr. David Leslie Kendall, 93, passed away with his family at his bedside on Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013. He was born in Montpelier, Vt., in 1920.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Cornelia Vaughan Kendall, and brother, Vaughan. David is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joan James; their four children, Jeanie Young, Deborah Kendall-Gallagher, Vaughan and Elizabeth; six grandchildren, Frank, David, Hunter, Margot, Kathryn (Katie) and Colin; and two great-grandchildren, Hawke and Bodie.

David graduated from McGill University and received his medical degree from the University of Vermont in 1953 after serving in World War II. David and Joan moved to Farmington in 1958, where he opened his general surgery practice. Committed to his patients, David served the community for more than 40 years. David was inducted in the San Juan Regional Medical Center Hall of Fame in 2006.

David, known to be disciplined but independent of spirit, was a loving husband, parent and grandparent. David brought a vitality to life expressed through his loyalty to family, excitement of flying, dedication to golf and love of fly fishing on the quality waters of the San Juan River.

David will be buried in St. George’s Cemetery in Trenton, Ontario, Canada.

Robert T. Gabriel ’39

GabrielRobert T. Gabriel passed away on October 21, 2013. Born and raised in New Haven, Conn., he was a former resident of Bedford, Mass. and Lexington, Mass. After graduating from Yale in 1943, he served as an officer in the Navy and took part in D-Day in 1944.

After the war, he joined the Yale Alumni Fund as Secretary of that organization for 13 years. Following that he became Director of Radcliffe College Fund. In subsequent years he worked as a fund raising consultant winding up as Vice President of American Fund Raising Services whose clients consisted of hospitals, colleges and other philanthropic organizations.

He was a member of the Pilgrim Congregational Church of Lexington where he was a member of the governing council for a number of years. After retirement he joined the Peace Corps and went to Botswana where he became loan officer in the National Development Bank.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Margaret Bell (Miller) in 1979, his second wife, Isabel (Maxwell) in 2007, his brother, John C. Gabriel and sister, Susan Cunliffe. He is survived by his one son, Robert T. Gabriel, Jr. and daughter Anne C. Dunn of Long Island. He also leaves three grandchildren: Meghan Durkee, Stacey Gabriel and Heather Dunn.

Raymond Davis ’60

Ray DavisRaymond E. Davis passed away suddenly at his home in East Falmouth on June 13, 2013.  Ray was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on September 11, 1941, but spent most of his formative years growing up in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York.  He graduated from Hastings High School, The Williston School, The LaGuardia Academy of Aeronautics, and received his degree in mechanical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

Ray soon became a project engineer at Sikorsky Aircraft in Stratford, CT, a time highlighted by meeting the love of his life, Linda, whom he married in 1968.  Ray was transferred to Santa Ana, CA, where he was one of the first to work on terrain-following helicopter radar guidance used during the Vietnam war.  He was also deeply involved in the design and testing of helicopter sea rescue technology.

Herbert Pond ’44

Herbert PondHerbert R. Pond, 87, a longtime Auburn resident died Thursday October 24, 2013 in his home in Brewster after an illness with his family by his side.

His wife of 43 years, Beverly J. (Maccabee) Pond died in 1993. He leaves a daughter, Heather M. Pond of Brewster; a sister, Marilyn R. Bonasia and her husband John of Mashpee; five grandchildren, Travis Dandro of Maine, Christopher M. Lombardi of Vail, CO, Jonathan D. Lombardi of Bridgewater, Benjamin R. Pond of Boston and Molly T. Pond of Auburn; three great grandchildren and five nephews. Besides his wife, he was predeceased by three sons, Richard H. Pond in 2007, David L. Pond in 1990, and Dana G. Pond in 1974.
