Community Service Blanket Drive

Hello Williston!

The Community Service Club is hosting a blanket drive to collect new and used blankets to give to homeless individuals that do not receive placement in local homeless shelters. We have collection boxes on the first floor of the Schoolhouse, in the Campus Store, and in the Middle School through February 23rd,  and we are going to have boxes in the gym tomorrow during Diversity Day.

During these cold winter months one blanket can truly change a life, so please consider bringing a blanket tomorrow (since you don’t have to bring your textbooks, etc.) and help make our community a better place.

Thanks!
Sincerely,
The Community Service Club

[Video] On Shooting TEMPUS by Charles Frank ’13

“TEMPUS” was one of those spontaneous pieces that had absolutely no planning. I was spending the weekend in New Jersey working on pre-production for a mini documentary I’m shooting in March, when I suddenly turned to my friend Jake (the co-director of “TEMPUS”), and said, “Let’s shoot something this weekend.”

Within a few hours we had conceptualized a video, scouted a location, acquired free equipment, and found a third crew member to help us out. With a backpack full of snacks ready, Jake and I picked up our dancer and crew the next morning, and began shooting on instinct with no real plan of attack. After five hours, the sun started to set, and Jake and I retreated to our editing station.

For 10 and a half hours through the night we edited and finished “TEMPUS.” Thus far, “TEMPUS” has drawn attention from director/cinematographer, Philip Bloom, cinematographer of “Act of Valor,” Shane Hurlbut, and lastly, Red Bull. Hope you enjoy!

Student Leadership Training and Dinner

Student Leadership Training
3-7 pm, February 14
Tech Theatre Studio, first floor, Scott Hall.

I urge those interested in being a leader to attend the training on Thursday, 3-7 pm training with Dan Kwong. Student performers will have a dress rehearsal. You will be excused from athletic commitments that day.  Let me know if you have any other conflicts, so we can create solutions that will enable you to attend this once in a life time opportunity. Dan is being flown in from Los Angeles for this!

Dan Kwong is an award-winning performance artist who has been presenting his solo autobiographical performances internationally since 1989. Hailed by critics as “a master storyteller,” Kwong draws upon his own life experiences to reveal the links between the personal and the political, the past and the present, the self and the “other.”

State of the Union at StuBop

The State of the Union Address will be on tonight at 9 p.m. in the StuBop for seniors on honors, those who can get permission from their advisor or dorm parent, day students, and anybody else who would like to stop by.  Maybe your teacher would be willing to give some extra credit for viewing it and writing a summary?  Ask them.  See you at 9 p.m. in the StuBop.

Sincerely,
Mr. Spearing
