Dear Students,

As we look towards the end of the year, I wanted to let everyone know the process we will be using to collect your Surface. We collect the Surfaces so that we can make sure we have them updated and ready for re-deployment next September. For returning students, we will do our best to make sure that in September you get back the same Surface that you return to us.

To prepare for returning your Surface, be sure that your important files are backed up to OneDrive, as any files not backed up will be erased during the re-imaging process. If you are not sure whether your files are being backed up properly, please visit the Technology Department.

The collection times/locations will be as follows:

• 7th Grade: Thursday, May 28 at the end of the day in the Middle School
• 8th Grade: Friday, May 22 at 2:40 p.m. in the Middle School
• 9th, 10th, 11th Grades: Wednesday, May 27 and Thursday May 28 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. in the PA Room
• 12th Grade ONLY: Friday, May 22 between 2:00 and 5:00 in the Tech Center and Saturday, May 23th between 9:00 a.m. and noon in the PA Room

During the collection process, you will turn in your:
Surface ($1299)
Stylus ($29.99)
Charger ($79.99)
Keyboard ($129.99)

A Technology Department staff person will examine the equipment, verify what you have returned, and issue you a receipt. If you fail to turn in a piece of equipment, the Business Office will charge your account for the cost of replacement, as outlined above. If we determine that your Surface has been damaged beyond normal wear and tear, you will be charged a $250 repair fee, as per the user agreement.

I urge you to come to the Technology Department if you know that you have any defective or damaged equipment so that we can deal with it before the end of the year.

Also, keep in mind that it is a violation of school rules to sell school-owned equipment such as styluses, chargers, or keyboards.

I will send out reminders as the dates draw closer. If anyone has any questions, please contact the Technology Department at ext. 3338.

Witness the history and legacy of the anti-mafia movement in Sicily brought to light through Another Corleone: Another Sicily.

In the eyes of many Americans and throughout most of the world Sicilians are viewed as mafiosi.

Francis Coppola’s internationally acclaimed 1972 film, The Godfather, propelled this stereotypical view to mythic proportions and romanticized the mafia.

Little is known of the heroic anti-mafia movement in Sicily that originated among the peasants. Since the late 1800’s, agrarian leaders emerged. As they organized and grew in strength, pressing for reforms, the mafia murdered them, thereby halting progress for decades.

Yet new leaders emerged, determined to carry on the fight, even at the cost of their own lives.

The legacy of these leaders is embodied in three farm cooperatives created from lands confiscated from the mafia in the area of Corleone.

Anthony Fragola is Professor Emeritus of Media Studies at the University of North Carolina – Greensboro. Another Corleone: Another Sicily is the culmination of a series of documentaries on the anti-mafia movement in Sicily.

Here is the assessment schedule for the week of May 25– 28. (Please note: The last day on this schedule is Thursday, not Friday as indicated.)

This Saturday, May 2 is the Northampton Pride Parade!

If you want transportation to and from campus:

A minivan will be leaving campus from in front of Reed at 10:30, and returning at 1:10.
