Betty Huber Billings ’40

Betty Jean (Huber) Billings, 90, of Glastonbury passed away peacefully on Friday (October 5).

She was born in Haverstraw, NY on March 31, 1922, daughter of the late Jean (Gurnee) and Joseph Huber. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Roswell. Betty was a graduate of Skidmore College.

A long time resident of Glastonbury, she was a member of the Congregational Church in South Glastonbury, the Glastonbury Historical Society, the Handweavers’ Guild of Connecticut and a former docent at the Wells-Shipman Ward House. Betty enjoyed a full life. She took great pleasure in learning and mastering the fiber arts including knitting, sewing, embroidery, spinning, weaving and bobbin lace. She showered her family and friends with her handcrafted treasures. Her Teddy Bear collection brought her much joy. Betty composed holiday poems that touched the hearts of family members.

However, her life’s work and greatest accomplishment was the love, upbringing and care of her children. A loving and devoted mother and grandmother, she leaves behind her brother and sister in law Joseph and Priscilla Huber, her cousin Peg Margison and several nieces and nephews. She was blessed with five wonderful children; Wendy Billings of Manchester, Becca Billings of Glastonbury, Scott Billings and Amy Stoll of Brooktondale, NY, Kent and Donna Billings of Glastonbury and Canada and Steve Squizzero of No. Scituate, RI, eleven grandchildren: Tania, Nick, Heather, Bryan, Sarah, Glen, Dana, Jennie, Justin, Rachel and Lydia, four great grandchildren: Gianna, Benny, Layla, Makala and a little wiggle muffin on the way.

Our family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to our loving friend and family physician, Nicholas Palermo.
