Donald Morse ’38

MorseDonald Ray Morse, 93, of Parkwood Beach, Wareham, passed away at home Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013. He was the husband of Katharine (Boyce-Hinman) Morse. Donald was born Dec. 5, 1919, in Brockton, the son of the late Warren P. and Laura (Wagner) Morse.

A 1937 graduate of Brockton High School. Donald furthered his education graduating from Williston Academy in 1938 and then Tufts College in 1942 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. While at college Donald was a member and belonged to the Delta Upsilon Fraternity. A U.S.Navy veteran of WorldWar II, Donald served in the Mediterranean Theatre and attained the rank of Lieutenant.

Donald was employed at Factory Mutual Engineering Assn. from 1947 until his retirement in 1978 from the appraisal department. He was elected as a director of the Campello Cooperative Bank in 1961 and served until 1994. He was a moderator of the South Congregational Church at the time of its consolidation in 1980 with other Brockton UCC churches, president of the Brockton Historical Society 1984-1986, three time past president of the Parkwood Beach Association, and former treasurer of the Wareham Historical Society and chairman of the July 4th Antiques Fair.

Donald is also survived by his children, David H. Morse and his wife Joann of Lilburm, Ga., Cynthia Bernier and her husband Robert of East Freetown. He was the grandfather of Mathew Morse and Jennifer Morse. Donald was the former husband of Natalie (Hall -Goodspeed), who passed away in 1995 and June Kellegrew Morse who passed away in 2001.
