B. Arthur Pinney ’49, residing in Fort Myers, FL, passed away peacefully February 15, 2014. He is survived by his wife, Polly, and children, Meg and Geoff.

Joseph Bury, Jr. ’54
Joseph L. Bury, Jr., 79, of Rockville, also known to his close relatives and friends as “Junior” went to eternal rest on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at Hartford Hospital.
He was born August 23, 1934, son of the late Joseph L. and Pauline (Sadlak) Bury, Sr. He was raised in Rockville, attending local schools.
Joseph was a faithful communicant of St. Joseph Church. He was a veteran and served in the U.S. Army. Joseph was co-owner with his brother, Robert S. Bury, of various real estate ventures and DeLuxe Amusements, established by their parents.
He is survived by a special cousin Marion Connor of Rockville, his additional close cousins that we are aware of, Marie Munson, Irene Gates, Stanley Sadlak, Anthony Sadlak, and Alita. He also leaves his former dedicated secretary, Joan Berman of Ellington and many caring relatives and friends.
Frederick George Fischer, Sr. ’41
Frederick George Fischer Sr. died Saturday March 22, 1014, at his home in Palm City, Florida. He was born February 19, 1924 in New Haven Connecticut, and had just celebrated his 90th birthday.
Fred graduated from Williston Academy and the University of Pennsylvania, and served as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army during World War II, when he was stationed primarily in Cairo, Egypt. He worked as a Certified Public Accountant in New Haven, Connecticut, eventually becoming Partner-in-Charge at Ernst & Ernst, later Ernst & Whinney. After retirement from the firm, he served as Financial Vice President at the University of New Haven, until full retirement, when he relocated to Harbour Ridge in Palm City, Florida.
Fred will be remembered for his long-standing support of the Junior Achievement and United Way as well as other local charities in the Port St. Lucie area. In addition he was an avid golfer and long-time football enthusiast, cheering on and recruiting for teams at the University of Pennsylvania and the University of New Haven. Fred was a fixture at the Grill Room at Harbour Ridge and his boundless sense of humor and generosity will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ann Fischer; a daughter, Pamela Lally; a son, Frederick Fischer Jr.; as well as four granddaughters and a great-granddaughter.
Thornton Benson Morris ’45
Thornton Benson “Ted” Morris, 86, died peacefully in his sleep on March 20, 2014, in Pittsboro, NC. The cause of death was Alzheimer’s Disease.
The eldest of three children, Ted was born on February 6, 1928 in Plainfield, NJ to Elizabeth Jenkins Morris and Herbert Leroy Morris. Valedictorian of his Williston Academy class in 1945, he went on to receive a BA in Economics from Princeton University in 1953, having completed his college education in three sessions, scheduled around his service as Chief Petty Officer in the Navy from 1946-48 and 1952.
Donald Carr ’60
Donald F. Carr, 71, of Mutter Street, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2014, at his home.
Born in Holyoke, he was the son of the late Donald and Wanda (Swazlowski) Carr.
Don graduated in 1960 from Williston Academy and received his bachelors of science degree from Middlebury College in Vermont.
He retired as an accountant for Wallace Tax in Northampton. Don was a Vietnam War veteran serving with the United States Army, a shareholder with the Pulaski Club in Easthampton, and a I.R.S. enrolled agent.
He leaves his wife Karen Carr; his son Nicholas Carr and his wife Elodia Villasenor of San Francisco, Calif.; his step-daughter Sara Harvey and her husband David of Springfield; his brother Jonathan Carr and his wife Mel of Decatur, Ga.; and his grandchildren Henry, Itzia and Maya.
William F. Levine ’53
William F. Levine, a Nassau trial lawyer involved in at least two cases of national importance and a former president of the Nassau Bar Association, died Monday at his home in Sea Cliff. He was 78.
“The legal community has lost a giant,” said Nassau County Administrative Judge Thomas Adams. “His extraordinary knowledge of the law and gentle demeanor maintained a sense of dignity and respect for the court and those he represented.”
John Burke, Jr. ’51
John Burke, Jr. born October 12, 1927, passed away peacefully at the NY State Veteran’s Home at Montrose, NY on Monday, January 6, 2014.
John was born in Holyoke, MA, and graduated from Holyoke High School before entering the US Navy. Following his honorable discharge John attended Williston Academy before enrolling at Columbia University graduating in 1995. He was employed by Columbia until his retirement.
He continued to be active working for the Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS) before it moved to Washington,, DC. He also worked for the New York Times Election Polling Department as a researcher for the CBS News Election & Survey Unit, and he had a plant store called “Green Pastures” on 111th and Amsterdam. He could always be found in the neighborhood of Broadway and 112th Street where he was known by many as the “Mayor of Broadway”.
He is survived by his four nieces and nephews and their families. He is also survived by his “NY family – the Lashers” who cared for John in his last years.
James “Jim” Hamilton ’61
James Warren “Jim” Hamilton died Saturday, February 1, 2014 at his home in Cohasset following a brief battle with bladder cancer. He was 71.
Jim was born in Plymouth, Massachusetts, the son of Marjorie and Harold Hamilton. He attended Williston Northampton School and Dartmouth College and received a masters degree in graphic arts under the tutelage of Alex Nesbitt at Southern Massachusetts University.
Jim had a long and productive career as a printing salesman for Nimrod Press, which later became part of Universal Printing. Well known in the printing industry of New England, he was a longtime member of the Society of Printers from whom he received the Benjamin Franklin Award for distinguished service in 1996. He was a member for many years of PINE, Printing Industries of New England, and chaired their scholarship program.
Bayley F. Mason ’47
Bayley F. Mason, 84, of Cambridge, formerly of Weston and Belmont, a retired Senior Development Officer for Harvard University, died peacefully on January 27, 2014.
An avid historian, he will be greatly missed by his family, friends, students, advisees and colleagues. Beloved husband of the late Edith (Harwood) Mason. Devoted father of Beverly Mason Dillaway and her husband Lance of Weston, Stephen Mason and his wife Susan of Bethlehem, PA, and Christopher Mason and his partner Myrna Reevis of Browning, MT. Loving grandfather of Rebecca and Margaret Dillaway, David Mason, and Sierra Mason. Brother of the late Herbert P. Mason, Jr. and his late wife Jeanne. Dear cousin of Frederick J. England, Jr., step-brother of Joan (Sprague) Garry and T. Leslie Shear, Jr., Brother-in-law of Justine (Harwood) Laquer and LTC (ret) David Smith. He also leaves his caregiver Andrew Lenzini, and many nieces and nephews.
Born 1929 in Lynn, MA he graduated from Williston Academy, Harvard College 1951 and Harvard Kennedy School of Government. Awarded his commission from Navy OCS, he was a Naval Intelligence Officer from 1952-55, serving on the staff of Commander, Naval Forces, Far East in Japan and Korea as Lieutenant, j.g.
A longtime dedicated fundraiser for Harvard University as Associate Dean for Development at both the Medical School and the Kennedy School, member of the 1951 Permanent Class Committee, he was also an Admissions Office alumni interviewer, freshman adviser, Crimson executive, instructor at Harvard Extension School (management of NGOs) and Senior Common Room member of Lowell House. Also Administrative Vice President for Oberlin College 1971-74 and Vice President for Resources of Boston University 1974-80. Private family services were held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Weston where he served as vestryman and senior warden. A memorial service will be held in the spring at The Memorial Church of Harvard University.
Kermit George Pratt ’39
Kermit George Pratt, 92, of Newport News, died Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013.
He was born Sept.12, 1921, in Windsor, Vermont, the son of George Henry Pratt and Mary Patterson Pratt of Windsor, Vermont. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Colin and Ann Pratt of Newport News; his daughter, Kay-Lyn Pratt Merritt of Ashland; five grandchildren, Lindsay Zanol (Max) of Gloucester Point, Adam Pratt of Henrico, Robin Merritt Liesfeld (Kenny) of Montpelier, Rebecca Merritt of Ashland, Catherine Merritt Blanche (Bradley) of Glen Allen; and three great grandchildren, Luca and Bella Liesfeld of Montpelier, and Abel Blanche of Glen Allen. He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Marilyn, who died in October, 2000.
