2013_Chattman_Portrait_Carey-BaldwinCarey Baldwin – Ms. Baldwin joins Williston—and returns to the Pioneer Valley—after teaching and tutoring for the last 10 years in California, and most recently Washington state. She graduated from Mt. Holyoke College with a BA in Physics and Environmental Science. Ms. Baldwin will teach math, and will also be a coach and advisor. Ms. Baldwin and her husband, Brent Visser, will live on campus with their sons Quinn and Sam. Katy-Briedis---CroppedKaty Briedis – Katy joins the Williston faculty from Cushing Academy where she taught math and was a coach and a dorm parent. As a Cushing graduate she knows independent boarding schools. She will coach lacrosse and work in the athletic performance program. Katy has a B.A. in Mathematics from SUNY Potsdam and an MBA from Averett University. Katy lives at 30 Center St.

MoniqueMonique Conroy – Monique Conroy has taught in the math department at Williston for the past 14 years.  A native of West Hartford, Connecticut, Monique has always had a strong affinity for independent schools.  After graduating from Middlebury College with a BA in Biology, Mrs. Conroy began teaching mathematics in 1986 at The Indian Mountain School. Monique also taught at Foothill Country Day School in Claremont, California until returning home to New England and arriving at Williston with her husband, the newly hired Williston Director of Athletics. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Mrs. Conroy has served as the assistant girls’ varsity soccer coach since 2009. Mrs. Conroy lives on campus in Pitcher House with her husband, Mark and their children Kristina and Kevin. Both Kristina ‘10 and Kevin ’12 are proud Williston graduates and currently attend Middlebury College. During Monique’s spare time, she loves spending time traveling with her family, cheering on all her favorite teams (Williston, Middlebury College woman’s basketball and of course the 2013 World Champion Boston Red Sox!) and running.  Mark and Monique have spent their last 25 summers recharging at their island home on Islesboro in Penobscot Bay, Maine.

KathrynKathryn Hill – Mrs. Hill is perhaps best known as the spouse of Robert W. Hill III, the head of school.  She has been teaching part-time in the department since the fall of 2012, and has twenty years of mathematics teaching experience at a number of independent school.  She graduated from Yale College with a BA awarded summa cum laude in mathematics and classical languages, and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.  She has a Masters Degree in Education from Notre Dame College with an emphasis on curriculum and instruction.  Kathryn is also a Williston parent, as her two children, Cameron ’15 and Robby ‘19, are students at the school.  This year she is teaching Geometry Honors and Probability and Statistics.

Mimi King – Mrs. King joined Williston in the fall of 1986, moving to western Massachusetts after teaching for 4 years in New Hampshire. She graduated from Framingham State College in 1981 with a BS in Mathematics and earned her Masters Degree in Education from the University of New Hampshire. She has taught in the middle school for all of her 28 years at Williston and for a 3 year stint of Algebra II Honors in the Upper School. In past years she has coached softball and been the school’s Sports Information Director. Mrs. King is also a dorm parent in French House. In past years she was dorm head in both John Wright and Conant dorms. She lives on campus with her husband Mike and their three boys, David ’11, a junior at Western New England University, Benjamin ’15 and Ryan ’15. This year she is teaching Pre-Algebra, Algebra and Algebra Honors and savoring the time she spent at Fenway Park with her husband watching the beloved Red Sox win the World Series.

MarthaMartha McCullagh – Ms. McCullagh has been at Williston since 1999.  She graduated from Bucknell University with a B.A. in psychology and Wesleyan University with a M.A.L.S. in Mathematics.  After teaching, coaching and running a dorm at another school for a number of years she spent time tutoring in Connecticut, Virginia, here at Williston, and locally.  This year Ms. McCullagh is teaching Calculus and Algebra II.  She and her husband, Chuck, who is Williston’s Business Officer, now live off campus.  They have two daughters, both Williston graduates!

2013_Chattman_Portrait_Josh-SeamonJosh Seamon – Mr. Seamon is the Math Department Head. He joined us after working at St. Johnsbury Academy (VT) from 2002 to 2013 where he served as a math teacher and Director of Academic Technology Integration. Mr. Seamon is returning to the Pioneer Valley as he is an Amherst Regional High School graduate who earned a BA in Mathematics from Pomona College, and a MS in Teaching Mathematics from UNH. Mr. Seamon will also be coaching the Math Team as well as advising. He lives on campus in 3 Payson with his Golden Retriever Mabel. Mr. Seamon is currently teaching Calculus and AP Calculus BC & Multivariable Calculus. You can read more about Mr. Seamon in his faculty profile.

Karla Schaffer – Karla taught math and worked at the Webb School in Tennessee for the last six years. Karla earned a B.A. in Mathematics and Psychology at Mercyhurst University and earned an MEd. in Teaching and Learning from Vanderbilt University. She will coach in the girl’s soccer and tennis programs. Karla and her husband Teddy will live in Clare House.

Teddy Schaffer – Teddy is an experienced math teacher who joins Williston from the Webb School in Tennessee. Teddy earned a B.S. in Mathematics and Economics from Furman University and a M.S. in Industrial and Systems Engineering from Georgia Tech. Teddy will teach math, and coach ultimate frisbee and water polo. Teddy and his wife Karla will live in Clare House.

Dr. Rajendra Shrivastava – Raj comes across the country from California to join the Williston community. He has taught math, physics, and computer science at both the high school and college level. Most recently, he has been teaching math and computer science in high schools. He holds several advanced degrees including a Ph.D in Computer Science from Louisiana State University. In addition to teaching math and computer science at Williston, Raj will lead the Robotics program and coach in the spring season. Raj will live on Main St. in Easthampton.

JanineJanine Whipple – Mrs. Whipple joined Williston in 1991. She graduated in 1990 from Westfield State College with a BA in Mathematics. Mrs. Whipple currently teaches Pre-Calculus and Honors Algebra 2. She has previously taught classes in grades 7th through 12th. Mrs. Whipple lives on campus with her husband, Kurt and daughters Lindsay (class of 2017) and Emily (class of 2019). She is also the assistant Girls Varsity Basketball coach.

KurtKurt Whipple – Mr. Whipple joined Williston in 1996. He graduated from Skidmore College in 1993 with a BA in Mathematics and a minor in Physics. He earned an MME from WPI in 1999. Mr. Whipple teaches AP Calculus, Calculus, and Precalculus, and coaches boys’ Soccer and Golf. He lives on campus with his wife and two daughters.

StanStan Samuelson – Stan graduated from the Bronx H.S. of Science in 1964, from RPI in 1968 with a B.S.E.E. He worked for Raytheon designing computers and digital systems from 1968 until 1971 while getting an ABT masters in EE.  After ten years getting his M.S.W and working with folks with alcohol and drug problems, he found his passion working in Independent Schools. He worked one year at the Darrow School teaching math and serving as the school counselor before coming to Williston in 1982. Thirty-two years later he has taught everything from algebra through calculus.
BobRobert Bagley – Mr. Bagley was born and educated in England. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from U. of Southampton. He emigrated to U.S. in 1975 and worked at 3 private schools in N.J. over 10 years. He was elected to the Williston faculty in 1986. He currently teaches Geometry, Calculus, Topics and Prob/Stats. He coaches soccer and track and lives off campus with wife Sue.
Ted Matthias – Mr. Matthias joined Williston Northampton in 2003 after retiring from a 25-year career in corporate Information Technology. He teaches Williston’s three Computer Science courses: Engineering & Robotics, Advanced Programming, and AP Computer Science. After the academic day, you can find Mr. Matthias in the Robotics Lab with Williston’s FIRST Tech Challenge Robotics Team as they prepare for New England robotics competitions. Mr. Matthias and his wife Carol live off-campus with Cooper, their very enthusiastic GoldenDoodle.
